Learn to Surf
One can’t travel to Byron without experiencing the thrill of surfing. Take a private lesson, or if you are feeling social, join in on a group lesson. We recommend surf legend Rusty Miller’s Surf school, Black Dog Surfing and Soul Surf School among others. Whether you choose a half-day lesson or a progressive course, feel reassured you are in safe hands – typically you learn to surf in waist deep water with small waves. Great activity for kids too!
Lighthouse Walk
Another must-do is the Byron Bay Lighthouse Walk located along Australia’s most easterly point. The scenic 3.7 km loop weaves through lush rainforest and along clifftops, offering breathtaking ocean views over the bay. Starting from various points, including Clarkes Beach or The Pass, the trail is accessible for all fitness levels During whale season, you are bound to spot migrating humpbacks and pods of dolphins all year round – this is truly the best view in Byron.
Farmers Markets
The Northern Rivers is a vibrant hub for markets, music, and festivals in Australia. Mingle with locals at farmers markets where you can find fresh produce like blueberries, honey, and sourdough bread and enjoy live local musicians. Byron Farmers Markets occur Thursdays in Byron Bay and Saturdays in Bangalow, while Mullumbimby Market is every Friday. For unique crafts, visit the Byron Twilight Markets or beachside markets.
Breathwork Byron
For a deeply profound wellness experience, try a private or group breathwork circle at Breathwork Byron. Facilitated by Dan and Sara, be gently guided through conscious breathing techniques designed to bring more oxygen into the blood and brain and positively impact our mood, energy and nervous system. There’s increasing evidence on the health benefits of conscious breathing including how this practice can even change the way we think. These sessions are like a doorway to the subconscious mind, releasing, letting go and integrating content that is not easily accessible through traditional therapy. It’s truly transformative.
