Asia has long been at the forefront of holistic healing, drawing on centuries-old traditions and natural remedies. New holistic treatments and wellness therapies are en vogue, and nowhere more so than in Asia. Today, luxury hotels across the region are reinventing wellness with treatments that blend ancient wisdom with modern innovation.

From floating weightlessly in Thailand to sound bathing in Vietnam, these experiences go far beyond a simple massage. Here, we spotlight a selection of Asian hotels offering unique spa treatments designed to restore balance, ease stress, and awaken the senses.

Floating an Idea in Krabi Thailand

Krabi

Banyan Tree Spa Krabi, recently lauded by the MICHELIN Guide as one of the seven most luxurious spas in Thailand, is now offering complimentary weightless therapy classes. Weightless therapy or flotation therapy is a holistic technique that involves floating in water, whereby buoyancy helps alleviate pain and stress. This sensory deprivation treatment is renowned for inducing a state of deep relaxation. Guests at Banyan Tree Krabi resort may opt for a “Wave Stretch” session, which combines a rhythmic flow of water combined with gentle tension-point massage, or a “One Weightless” treatment, a fully immersive experience in a zero-gravity environment. Both private and complimentary group classes are available. The spa also provides a selection of massage treatments and its signature Rainforest – a sensuous hydrothermal circuit featuring a rain walk, steam room, sauna, ice fountain, vitality pool, outdoor cold and hot plunge pools, jet pool and heated bed.

Sound Baths Come to Mui Ne in Vietnam

The Anam Mui Ne, an Indochine-era inspired resort in Vietnam’s popular beach town Mui Ne, has expanded its spa and wellness offerings with a menu of Himalayan singing bowl therapies that offer an array of health benefits. Used for centuries for healing and meditation purposes, the therapy involves running a mallet along the edge of a metal bowl in a slow, circular motion to create a rich and deep sound that resonates throughout the body. The Anam Spa’s new Himalayan singing bowl therapies are believed to stimulate circulation and boost the immune system, alleviate stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, balance energy, release blockages, help naturally detoxify the body, and promote emotional healing. From 45 to 60 minutes, the “Relaxing”, “Balancing”, “Detoxifying”, “Healing Power” and “Healing Sound Bath” treatments afford a variety of health benefits. The Anam Spa also offers complimentary hour-long group singing bowl sessions for up to five people.

From Sweat to Shivers in Vietnam

TIA Wellness Resort’s Detox Hydro Circuit Therapy is an active 60-minute detox journey. The treatment takes place in its own dedicated area of the wellness center that features a relaxation space, with cushy oversized chairs overlooking a serene garden; a herbal steam room, where the treatment begins; a stone shower bed, for the hydrotherapy massage and the coffee and salt body scrub portion of the treatment; a sauna; and an ice bath. Each step is guided by a skilled spa therapist and refreshing detox water is provided throughout. The therapy ends with foot reflexology to further stimulate the detox process. The invigorating ice bath, which TIA introduced specifically for this therapy, helps reduce inflammation and promote immunity. Guests will take two two-minute cold plunges during the session, one after the herbal steam and one after the sauna. This will take full advantage of the powerful benefits, like firing up the lymphatic system, that come from switching between hot and cold temperatures.
