I recently visited France for a month of travel and work. Flying into Paris and staying there for 2 weeks, I then made my way further south to Biarritz. Please put this on your list of things to do in France – Biarritz is a beautiful location which will certainly leave a lasting impression for you!!
Nestled along the enchanting Basque coast, the Regina Experimental Biarritz is more than just a hotel – it’s a journey into a world of luxury, history, and rejuvenation.
Known for its Belle Époque architecture and timeless elegance, this hotel’s charm has enchanted travellers for over a century. Me included!
With a rich history of high society and haute couture, the Regina is an experience that warmly welcomes you into the glamour of old-world France with all the modern comforts and wellness offerings you’re wanting when on a European travel.
A Step Back in Time with Glamour and Heritage
To set the scene, the hotel was built in 1907, and quickly became a popular destination for European high society. During World War I, it transformed into a hospital for injured soldiers – a noble offering that served the country.
Today, the hotel honours this heritage through its recent renovation, combining the glamour of the past with cutting-edge amenities.
The rooms, furnished in marine-inspired patterns and warm, vintage touches, give the feeling of an ocean liner, along with incredible views of either the Atlantic Ocean or the well-known Golf de Biarritz course.
Rooms with a View and Spacious Elegance
The Regina has 72 rooms, each elegantly designed to balance historic charm with modern luxury.
Staying in one of the Junior Suites, I had incredible ocean views. Watching the sunset over the ocean from my room was a memorable evening I often think about. Truly magnificent!!
The Junior Suite had a spacious layout which really allows for full relaxation.
With separate spaces within the suite for sleeping, working, and unwinding, the room feels like a private retreat. A luxurious bathroom outfitted with double sinks, a spacious shower, and high-end fittings gives the feeling of indulgence, creating an ideal space to unwind after a day exploring the coastal beauty of Biarritz and its coastline.
Wellness at the Heart of Regina Experimental
For spa lovers, the Regina Experimental offers a sanctuary for the senses.
The hotel’s wellness treatments are crafted to renew both body and soul, featuring holistic treatments that blend traditional techniques with modern therapeutic approaches.
I had an amazing signature massage which had me in a deep state of relaxation allowing my energy to be restored.
Natural, organic products from the esteemed Susanne Kaufmann line, inspired by Alpine botanicals, are used in the treatments. The local brand brings oceanic vitality to the experience and it beautiful on the skin.
The spa also includes a sauna which can be used by hotel guests. There is also an heated outdoor pool with incredible views of the hotel’s façade.
I have to say ….. after my massage, there was nothing like lounging poolside with the Basque coast across the road. So beautiful and relaxing!
Dining at La Frenchie: A Taste of Basque Tradition
The hotel’s on-site restaurant, La Frenchie, offers an immersive taste of Basque foods.
Known for its commitment to local ingredients, La Frenchie blends traditional French flavours with innovative twists, resulting in dishes that are both comforting and exciting. I was so impressed by everything served!
Each meal on the menu celebrates the region, from fresh seafood to artisanal produce. And for those who enjoy an evening drink, the adjoining cocktail bar with its selection of regional wines has a sophisticated yet relaxed setting. The expert staff can help you with choices too.
The Iconic Atrium: A Space of Reflection and Grandeur
One of the most striking features of the Regina is its 15-meter-high atrium. This architectural feature with sweeping bay windows and intimate seating, creates a beautiful space to relax and unwind.
The Perfect Base for Exploring Biarritz
Staying at the Regina Experimental Biarritz isn’t just about indulging in luxury – it’s also a gateway to exploring one of France’s most stylish coastal towns. Biarritz is truly an incredible destination and I highly recommend this if visiting France (or nearby Spain).

For travellers wanting a blend of history, luxury, and wellness, the Regina Experimental Biarritz is a destination you should seek out.
From the elegance of its rooms to the indulgent spa and refined dining experiences, it’s a hotel that provides unforgettable moments along the beautiful Basque coast.
